AMSCO Review Book
This is by far one of the best books on the market for AP Human Geography. It can be used in a variety of ways, but I would suggest purchasing it to supplement the textbook and to help prepare for end-of-the-unit exams. We'll also be using it for our end-of-the-year review sessions in the spring. I have some copies that can be checked out to students if you prefer not purchasing your own copy.

Multiple Choice/FRQ Tips, Advice, etc.
Free Response Questions (FRQs)
Multiple Choice
Night Before the Test/Day of the Test
- Outline your answers to ALL three of the questions on the test booklet (while your mind is still fresh) before you begin answering the questions.
- Answer what you feel is the easiest question first, which will allow you more time for the more challenging questions
- DO NOT answer in bullets and use as much elaboration as possible with appropriate examples.
- Remember, you will NOT be penalized for grammatical errors.
- If the prompt asks you to describe, explain, or discuss, you will probably need to write approximately one paragraph for each part of the question.
- Make changes by simply adding it and indicating which part of your response it belongs in; if you write something that you decide you do not want included in your response, draw a line through it and it will not be scored.
- FRQs do not have to be written in the order they are listed in the question booklet.
Multiple Choice
- Narrow your answer choice down to 2 of the 5 options.
- If you cannot answer in 45 seconds, move on to another question and come back to the one you are struggling with.
- Look at key phrases in the "stem" (prompt of the question which can clue you in to the correct response).
- Turn questions that use the terms NOT or EXCEPT into true/false questions.
- Some questions might truly be "that easy." Do not feel like you are being purposely tricked or fooled.
- For map questions: check the scale of the data being presented -- is it showing a local community? a state or province? a country? Look at all information given you in the map legend. If the map includes a title, it will probably also give you information you can use in answering the question.
- Remember: there is no guessing penalty, so make sure to answer every question.
Night Before the Test/Day of the Test
- Get a good night's rest and eat a good breakfast.
- DO NOT cram the night before or the morning of the test.
- When taking the exam, try to slow the process down -- like a good athlete, stay mentally focused. This will reduce unwanted stress.
- Remember to stay extremely focused during your 10-minutes break following the multiple choice portion of the exam -- use the restroom, eat a light snack, and find a quiet spot in the room so you can avoid any distractions before the FRQs.
